Airfield Lighting Electrician/Technician Lead [Kuwait]
The Airfield Lighting Electrician/Technician Lead will perform installing, testing, repairing, and maintenance of high voltage electric power-controlling equipment and/or distribution lines. Work requires knowledge of electrical principles, procedures, materials, and safety standards governing electrical systems above 600 volts. In addition, work requires general mechanical skills and knowledge, and in some cases, may require knowledge of electronic principles as they pertain to airfield electronic control circuitry. Incumbent is responsible for: installing or repairing any of a variety of electrical equipment such as generators, transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit systems, or other transmission equipment; working from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications; locating and diagnosing trouble in the electrical system or equipment; working standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment; and using a variety of electrician’s hand tools and measuring and testing instruments.
Essential Job Functions:
- Install, operate, maintain, and repair electric wires, poles, cross arms and supports, transformers, and other equipment and accessories of electrical power for distribution lines between power generation plant, substations, and consumers.
- Operate, maintain, and repair overhead, underground and temporary above-ground distribution system to include cable, pothead, cable box, oil fuse cutout, load limiter, control, instrument, etc.
- Install, operate, maintain, and repair outside lighting, street lighting and security lighting. Install, maintain, and repair all associated exterior electrical components in primary switching stations and secondary distribution centers and substations.
- Install, operate, maintain, and repair distribution transformer, current regulator, oil circuit breaker, insulator, switching gear, control circuit, etc.
- Install, maintain, and repair low voltage electrical distribution system, lighting, circuit breaker, etc., and equipment field deployed and permanent facilities.
- Modify and substitute foreign electrical components such as breaker, receptacle, etc., to suit local installation/field requirement.
- Interpret electrical data and provide technical requirements to supply personnel, planners, and work control technicians.
- Install and maintain emergency light(s) including the repair or install of battery bank and charger.
- Perform cable splicing of 11 KV high voltage and 4,160 medium voltage lines, termination of 11 KV high voltage and 4,160 medium voltage lines.
- Assist power production technician in performing electrical distribution connections associated with portable generator, regulator, etc.
- Maintain, with power production personnel, 50/60- and 50/400-cycle frequency converters.
- Install additional power feeds to temporary and permanent facilities, such as billets and office facilities.
- Open required high-voltage switches to de-energize line or equipment to be worked on, tests for the voltage, and clamps grounding device to equipment to ensure safety of workers.
- Transfer wires from existing poles to other poles.
- Erect new poles and cross arms, direct ground personnel in digging holes, setting poles, and installing guy wires and other supports, and pulls and sags wires.
- Install and maintain transformers, capacitors, insulators, lightning arrestors, switches, circuit breakers, and other accessories used in connection with high-voltage distribution lines.
- When necessary, work in, near, or on “hot lines” using appropriate equipment.
- Perform all work IAW OSHA, National, and Site-specific safety practices/procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Site Management.

Requirements
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or trade school course completion is required.
- 7 years of related experience including 4 years at a journeyman level.
- An advanced certification in assigned area required.
- Consideration will be given to relevant professional experience commensurate with assignment.
License and Certifications:
- Journeyman or Master Electrician License is required.
- Valid Driver’s License and be able to operate a vehicle with a manual transmission.
- Must have a Valid US Passport.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Must understand and apply primary and secondary distribution system constraints under field and emergency conditions.
- Must possess extensive knowledge in specialized functions, safety/industry best practices, and electrical principles.
- Must have working knowledge, skill, and ability to understand and troubleshoot both general and specific aspects of the job.
- Must apply practical application to complex problems and situations ordinarily encountered.
- Must be able to communicate professionally, orally, and in writing.

- Must be able to meet all current USCENTCOM Deployment Policy Requirements, including vaccination for COVID-19 as outlined in Paragraph 1.A. of the USCENTCOM JAN 22 MOD SIXTEEN TO USCENTCOM INDIVIDUAL AND INDIVIDUAL-UNIT DEPLOYMENT POLICY
- Able to obtain and maintain a valid Residency Visa for Kuwait
- Must be able to work in extreme environmental conditions including dust and high temperatures.
- Must be able to endure long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions.
